Day 53
Here is #Mug #53 - The Shape
With each mug I throw, I form a different body shape and handle. I am experimenting; I have not sketched out the design of any of these mugs in advance, although I should. I let the "clay guide me." Some of my ceramic friends may shake their heads and may ask why?
Because it is 2020, and I decided with this project to let the clay speak to me and direct me. This is my way of finding zen within my work and discovering my voice and style; besides, it is my meditation method.
I hope to have a long relationship with clay, and I enjoy the slow process. With clay, you can't rush; each piece needs its time, from the day it was collected until it is utilized daily or admired as a decorative piece of art. When my hands create a piece, they give birth to an infinite art. Someone will acquire it one day and treasure it for a lifetime, and it will live beyond. Also, a broken vessel can be admired, even be fixed the Kintsugi way! If cared for properly, it can live for thousands of years and preserve all its history.
